MIDI Organ Console Project
This project is an attempt to make an easily expandable device to fit into existing analogue organs to give them MIDI out. It is very versatile and could be used even just as a standalone controller for a set of organ pedals.
Why?
Students such as myself who are learning to play organ should be able to afford to have an instrument to practise on. Dedicated sampling organs cost more than the average student (let alone parent!) can afford (in the order of $10K to $90K) while old analogue organs are fairly easy and cheap to obtain off the internet or at auctions.
I also think that small churches or schools might benefit from having a device like this available to them both as a musical and a learning tool. Virtual organs playing packages such as Hauptwerk are absolutely feature packed and (with a decent computer) can be used to play very large organs in your own living room.
How does it work?
The device basically just reads the states of every key/switch in each manual, stop and pedal board and sends midi on/off messages each time they change. It can do more than that, but check out the technical specs if your interested in it!
Where can I get one?
Not in a store, and not from me. I provide all the information for someone with basic electronics knowledge to build one of these themself. My guides are fairly comprehensive and I have included my email address (see about me page) for any queries you may have on construction (I am more than willing to help).
