Software - Noise Reduce - Usage Guide

Instructions for using Noise Reduce

Noise Reduce is still in it's testing stages but is now at a stage where it could probably go stable. Many changes have been made since the last published version (v0.12b); some features have been removed (such as artefact removal) while other basic functionality has been improved (oversampling, noise reduction template settings). Noise Reduce is provided as a 32bit Windows console application but has been found to compile and run flawlessly on Linux platforms. I may distribute binaries for the Linux platform if anyone expresses interest.

The software comes with three applications to perform the noise reduction. The list below gives a brief description of each application and the link goes to the specific manual page.

  • gnp Generates a noise template file from an audio file
  • gni Reads a noise template file and writes its data into a CSV file (useful for examining and graphing the template in a spreadsheet application)
  • nr The main mode of operation. Attempts to remove the noise from an audio file given a previously generated noise template.

Click on the operation mode for a description of its recommended use.
